Prickle Pears are no easy harvest, they’re covered in hundreds if not thousands of microscopic needles. The flavor hidden inside is befit such a treasure, though! You’ll be pleased as punch to pick up one of our cleaned Prickle bois!
We grow a huge variety of mandarins and tangerines, including the Tahoe Gold and Dancy Mandarins which are famous for their rich flavor and juicy interior. We offer a huge selection of easy to peel natural varieties. Don’t hesitate to ask for a sample, as the flavor of each mandarin varies wildly.
We grow two varieties of persimmons, one is the Hachia which is very much like persimmons you may be used to. They are only edible when you let them sit to the point of near rotting. The Fuyu persimmon however is absolutely amazing. It can be eaten at any time much like an apple. Delicious!

These peculiar fruits are a perfect example of what makes Murray Family Farms rare fruit expert Steven Murray great! He found these delicious berries while out on an adventure across the globe, and brought them home to our farm! They are sometimes called Mandarin Melonberries because of how similar their flavor is to watermelon. Even the seeds look like watermelon seeds!
We grow a large variety of apples, including some very unique ones like the Arkhansa black apple. It’s exceedingly dark with an unrivaled crispness!

Sea Beans are an exceptionally unique plant, in that it works well as an alternative to salt. These unassuming green treats make for amazingly unique additions to salad or topped on watermelon. Simply rub the green stems together or try them whole!

Asian pears are often times mistaken for apples, with a rough sandpapery exterior. They tend to be very sweet with little juice.

Elderberries make fantastic jam and preserves. They’re also well known as a natural remedy for a variety of ailments!
We grow a wide variety of absolutely amazing grapes that you’ve never heard of including the Thomcord, a mix of Concord and Thompson seedless. Sweet concord flavor with no seeds! Hooray!
Our delicious red grapes are juicy and crisp, just bursting with flavor. If you’ve never tried freezing grapes and eating them as a snack, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how effective they are at turning a Bakersfield summer day into a stay-cation of the ages!
We grow a huge variety of delicious green grapes including the muscat variety, made famous by muscat wine. The Muscat is to green grapes as the concord is to purple. If you havent tried to complex flavors of the muscat you’re missing out on a great experience!
The guava is one of our more exotic fruits. You may be familiar with them from various drinks, but you can get them fresh right here at Murray Family Farms!
Inside every palm tree is a delightfully crisp and flavorful heart. It takes a good long time for a palm tree to develop enough to have a harvestable interior, but this treat is unbelievable. It’s a rare occasion to try one fresh, but a wonderful experience when it happens!
Medlar are hard and acidic, but become edible after being softened by frost, or naturally in storage given sufficient time. Once softening begins, the skin rapidly takes on a wrinkled texture and turns dark brown, and the inside reduces to the consistency and flavour reminiscent of apple sauce.
The Arava Melons are the loving creation of the Cantalope and Honeydew, It’s close familial relation allows the Arava to pair surprisingly well with spicy flavors.

Pluots are a mix between Plums and Apricots. While Apriums tend to look like apricots, Pluots come in a huge variety of shapes and colors!

Pomegranates are the fruit of kings! They even have their own little crown. One of the most interesting things about pomegranates are that they still have their original latin name. Pome means apple, and Granate means stone, or seed. They were referred to as stone apples back in the day! Don’t you feel clever now!

Sunflowers make a fantastic contribution to home gardens and are very low maintenance. If you’re thinking of starting a family garden, start with sunflowers!
Quinces are very peculiar, as they are similar to Persimmons in that they must be frozen and then thawed before becoming edible. The secret of the quince, however, is that they are originally called “Marmelo” the fruit that inspired “Marmalade” . This is still true today, as adding quince to preserves or even cheese is said to enhance its flavor!
Sea beans make for a fantastic substitute for Salt. Eaten fresh whole or ground into a garnish, these are sure to add character and oomph to any dish.
